Why does my ps3 controller stop responding in games and start walking in a random direction for about 2 secs?

When playing Batman Arkham Asylum occasionally my character would just stop and start walking in a random direction for 2 seconds and yes my controller batteries are full and it still happens. My controller is a sixaxis only and my ps3 is a 20gb.
Well, I would definitely say that either the control stick is loose (even it it is loose just a tiny bit, it will affect it) or the controller is old and may need to be replaced. One other thing is that you should never leave a controller upside down when you put it down because that will mess it up. That has happened to me, so try not to do that and see what happens in like a week from now. Also, check if the disk is scratched.

i used to have the same problem. one of your analog sticks might be a little bit tweaked. have you been overusing them lately?
