PS3 Game Cheats

If you use cheats on your PS3 during a game, ex-GTA4, does it ruin the game in any way?

My brother says it does, is it true..

Possibly… Either way though you can get around it by making a new profile on the home menu and load the game through the new profile. This way you get to have your normal game save on one profile and mess around on the other!
