I am deciding on buying a PS3. I want to have Playstation 2 games on it as well. Can someone tell me what PS3 supports PS2 gaming?

None of them do, anymore.

The only models that play PS2 games are:

    20GB-Discontinued, all PS2 games $500
    60GB-Discontinued, all PS2 games $600, later $550
    Old 80GB-Discontinued, 80% of PS2 games $500***

    The following DO NOT:

    40GB-Discontinued $400
    New 80GB-in stores $400
    160GB-in stores $500

    All PS3′s play PSone games.

An easy way to tell if a PS3 will play PS2 games

    4USB ports=YES
2USB ports=NO (and NO means NO)

The reason is that the cost of putting the PS2 chip/CPU
and the PS2 graphics card in the PS3 was VERY expensive,
and as the PS2 only has about a year left (before it is
discontinued), Sony saw no reason to lose even more
money than they already are losing on the PS3, and
hence there is no backwards compatibility on PS3′s today.

*** The old 80GB PS3 had the PS2 CPU in it, but it used software to emulate the
graphics card or GPU. This means that when it tries to play PS2 games it 1) Will play them fine 2) Will play them, but with glitches 3) Won’t play them at all

The utility data or whatever it is called is software for the 80GB. The new PS3′s (40GB, new 80GB, 160GB) don’t have the PS2 CPU or GPU.

Well, your best bet right now is to buy a PS3 online Either a 60GB or 80GB with 4 USB ports. All the new version don’t play the PS2 games. So, you need to look online to buy one or go to a gamestop and buy a refurbished one. the 60GB plays all the PS2 games and the old disconitued 80Gb plays a wide range, but can’t play all of them.
