KaHoots for PlayStation 3 and PSP
Posted on Aug 20, 2010 under playstation | 5 Comments
Hello again everyone! Welcome back to another edition of PlayStation GameZown Mini Reviews, where we take a look into PlayStation 3s Multiplatform, and Exclusive games. Today I decided to do a fast video on a little PlayStation Mini puzzle game. That game being KaHoots.
In KaHoots your main objective is to get the KaHoot to the Blue Door safely in order to beat each stage. In the process, if you grab cake along the way, you get bonus points. The fun, and tricky thing about this game, is your character is like a lemming. Which means he just walks one way unless you change the path for him.
The graphics in KaHoots are very simplistic, strange, and to be honest, just not my style. But it is a mini game, and I have noticed most Minis don’t have the best graphics, so I try to look the other way when playing this little game. Some things like the talking Pegbeast look funny and cool, but the main character, and layout of the stage graphics are just not my style. Perhaps the kids might like it.
The music in KaHoots is what you hear in the video. I believe it has 3 music tracks, and plays only one of them during gameplay. I wished there were more variety, and that it wasn’t so repetitive. Even for a game of such a small price, I would hope for more music tracks.
The sound effects are mediocre, I suppose. There are a few of them, but in puzzle games I guess your not going to get many anyways. I find the Pegbeast funny, but the annoying “YAY!” when you reach the end drives me nuts. It’s just too loud, and obnoxious.
The controls in this game are just like what you would expect from a puzzle game of this kind. It’s not hard to play, or hard to learn. You simply drag the boxes on the floor to where you need them, and make sure the Kahoot doesn’t die.
About the video: I was hoping to create a very fast, small, simple video, and I thought KaHoots would be easy. However, things did not turn out easy, as the game had no trailer for me to use, and that means I needed to make my own. Sadly, that ran into issues all night long. I just wanted to mix the stereo tracks of the footage with sound fx, with another stereo track of the music I needed in the background. To say the least, it did not work out. So after it hit about 5am, I called it quits, and kept the one you see now at the end of this video. It could have been better, but, after working on it for 5 hours longer than I wanted to, something had to give. hahaha So I hope you like the video how it is.
Bottom line: I got this game for free for being a PlayStation Plus member, and would never have even known about it had I not been a PS+ member. But, after downloading it, and mastering most of the stages, I would have to admit, it does have its charm. I personally like the challenge in this game from stage 25 up. Every stage before this feels like a warmup, and the game only has 50 stages. So for such a small fee of $5, if your heavily into puzzle games, want one for your PSP on the go, and the voice of the main character doesn’t make your hair stand up, then I suppose it might be a decent purchase. Otherwise I would suggest another $5 game.
This game is in PSP resolution, has Dual Shock 3 support (no rumble), and Stereo Sound
